What this is
CaptainMTG exists because the two easiest places to research a military move — a generic real-estate portal and an installation’s own public affairs page — each answer only half the question. A real-estate portal doesn’t know your BAH, your PCS timeline, or which neighborhood near a specific gate actually has a short commute. An installation’s own page usually doesn’t cover financing, market comparisons, or what to actually expect once you arrive.
This site is built around installations, BAH, VA financing, and PCS logistics as one connected decision — not three separate tabs that don’t talk to each other. Every calculator, every installation profile, and every guide draws from the same underlying data, so the number you see on one page is the same number you’ll see anywhere else it’s referenced.
What makes it different
Honest about depth, not uniform by default
Not every installation profile is built out to the same depth yet, and we say so directly — a “Core data”, “Verified profile”, or “Gold-standard profile” badge on every listing tells you exactly what tier you’re looking at, rather than presenting thin data as if it were complete.
Transparent math, not black-box numbers
Every calculator shows its assumptions and is labeled “Illustrative” wherever the underlying table is a representative sample rather than a live feed — see the methodology page for exactly what that means.
Local Intelligence, not generic copy
Traffic patterns, flood risk, insurance quirks, and veteran resources are written per installation, reviewed by panels with direct experience — not templated paragraphs swapped city name to city name.
Execution shown at the point of need, not the front door
Homebird and Salute Mortgage — both part of the CaptainMTG team — appear only after the free tools and guides have done their job, as an option for execution, never as a precondition for using the site.

Who’s behind it
CaptainMTG is built by veterans. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, or any branch of the U.S. military — this is not a government website.
CaptainMTG, Homebird, and Salute Mortgage are commonly owned. This site exists because its founders wanted the resource they didn’t have while going through their own PCS moves and VA financing, and Salute Mortgage (VA financing) and Homebird (move coordination) are the two services that same team already runs to help with what comes next. That relationship is disclosed here, and everywhere those services are featured on the site, rather than presented as an arms-length referral.
Salute Mortgage LLC is a licensed mortgage lender, Company NMLS #2601951 (see NMLS Consumer Access for licensing detail). CaptainMTG itself does not originate, broker, or service loans, is not a lender, and does not charge for any of its tools, guides, or profiles — Salute Mortgage is only introduced where a reader has already indicated they want VA financing help.
